Zach Green - The Storyteller Chef.
Zach Green, widely known as The Storyteller Chef, is Australia’s only travelling Indigenous chef. Renowned for his immersive food experiences. Zach brings people together through fire, flavour and story celebrating culture in every dish he creates.
Blending traditional Indigenous cooking methods with contemporary techniques, Zach’s approach to food is deeply rooted in Country. From fire-roasting to native foraging, he works directly with native ingredients, crafting dishes that honour the land and the stories it holds. His cultural dining experiences and live-fire events share the rich flavours, knowledge and traditions of Indigenous Australia in a truly unique way.
Over the years, Zach has travelled across the country, cooking, teaching and connecting communities through food. He has owned and operated two restaurants; Elijas in Darwin (2018) and Illukas in Port Hedland (2023) before taking his work on the road to share his passion for native ingredients and cultural storytelling nationwide.
A qualified trainer and mentor, Zach is dedicated to supporting disadvantaged youth, helping the next generation build skills, confidence and cultural connection through food. He is also a proud Ambassador for The Burnt Chef Project, advocating for mental health in the hospitality industry, and works closely with 13YARN to promote open, culturally safe conversations about wellbeing and support.
Originally from the Palawa people of Tasmania and the Gunditjmara people of Victoria, Zach continues to travel Australia, cooking, teaching and sharing his culture, one fire and one story at a time.
